Poterie Salernoise is a story about a brother and sister, fascinated from a very young age by clay that is worked, kneaded, and shaped... when you know its secrets!
Later on, they learned those secrets in order to be able to adopt modern shapes and techniques, making objects more resistant and easier to clean.
The company has indeed evolved and now counts four employees.
Washed, kneaded, dried, and de-aerated, the clay takes shape in the artist’s hands. After a long period of drying, the object is prepared (sponged or sanded) for firing at 1050° in electric ovens.
It is then decorated with a paintbrush or syringe on top of or below the layer of enamel. The metal oxides used for their resistance to high temperatures include cobalt oxide, copper, and manganese, used in their purest form. They appear black to begin with and will only reveal their colour after being fired at 980°. Each piece, handled 4 to 7 times depending to the complexity of the decoration is enamelled with a spray gun in transparent shades. They are fired a second time so that the silica contained in the enamels melts and seals the raw material. This is a delicate moment in the process...
Poterie Salernoise now specialises in tableware and decorative items.
Old-fashioned and contemporary table objects sit side-by-side: from traditional Provencal pottery (jugs, melon plates, omelette platter), "restyled" in today’s colours, to the wide range of coloured crockery (plates, square or rectangular dishes, large and decorative dishes, etc.).
The decorative objects, lamps, and tables are in ceramic, fitting in well with a "pop art" look as well as rustic décor.
Art is everywhere: Carole Sesboué and Nathalie Pomero’s sculptures are unique decorative objects, combining enamelled terracotta and other materials to underline the round shapes, movement, and colour, in a show of materials and light.
