Set up 30 years ago, the Atelier Wiart was bought up by Patrick Maillebuau in 1999. To bring the company into the 21st century, this craftsman took the decision to produce a modern take on traditional ware.

Exports represent an important part of the Atelier Wiart’s turnover (in particular to English-speaking countries), making up to 80% of its sales figures. This workshop’s various facilities produce 8,000 m² of tiles, enamelled lava worktops, and decorative pieces every year.
In order to manufacture its ceramic tiles within the realms of tradition and modernity, Patrick Maillebuau gives a lot of importance to:
- the authenticity of the product, with a stamp on the back of every tile guaranteeing that it is entirely "Handmade",
- the quality and the alchemy of enamels in the new ranges (black, grey, chocolate, red shades...) but also in the classic ranges (more than 100 colours),
- the research into new techniques and appearances (for example chamotte, where the tile is sanded before enamelling).

For lava pieces, the Atelier Wiart offers a number of enamelling techniques giving a rustic, smooth, cloudy, or slipped effect. The lava is first moulded into the detailed dimensions and then enamelled in the requested colours.

The decorations are entirely hand-painted on lava panels or squares in specially fitted-out facilities. Depending on the request, the decorators paint motifs on the tiles in a Provencal or modern style.
